4 Tips for Choosing the Best Yarns for Summer

Get ready to do all your summer projects with these easy tips
04/03/2023
As summer approaches we all start thinking about what kind of project we can make for the new season. And while worsted weight yarn is the go-to yarn for many crafters, it’s not always the best choice. So what is the best yarn for your summer project?
There are various options available, so we’re going to take some of the guesswork out of it for you. Below are 4 tips on what to look for in summer yarns and just some of the choices we offer.
Things to consider when buying yarn for summer
- Yarn weight - If you’re making a dishcloth or certain other small projects, worsted weight might be a good choice. But for garments, summer throws, and accessories you will want to choose a lighter weight yarn.
- Breathability - A yarn that is breathable will help keep you cool during the summer. If you’re making any type of garment you will definitely want to consider using a breathable yarn.
- Absorbency - Your project may need a yarn that is absorbent and/or one that dries quickly. Swimsuit cover ups, dishcloths, and other projects that will most likely get wet are the ones that you will want these types of yarn for.
- Durability - If you’re making something that will be washed regularly (ex: dishcloths and placemats) think about choosing a yarn such as linen. It holds up well under regular washing and keeps its shape.
