What is aran & worsted weight yarn? Aran and worsted yarns are medium weight yarns that are slightly heavier that a DK weight but lighter than a chunky weight yarn. It is sometimes referred to as an all-purpose yarn because it’s good for so many types of projects. Typically there are 16-20 stitches per 4 inches when using 4.5-5.0 mm needles or hooks, but this may vary slightly based on the specific yarn you are using.
